Meet Jennifer Mejía, Licensed Professional Counselor
Solution-focused therapy to help you rewrite the patterns holding you back
My Background
I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor with a Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Houston-Clear Lake. Before becoming a therapist, I worked in public health research for the NIH, CDC, and Department of Defense, which shaped my direct, solution-focused style.
Now, in private practice in Montrose, I help adults navigate anxiety, trauma, addiction, ADHD, and relationship struggles by combining clinical insight with deep respect for your lived experience.
When I'm not in the office, I enjoy snuggling with my pets on the couch and curling up with a good book or movie.
My Approach to Therapy
Most of us don't move through life perfectly, even when we're doing our best to follow a blueprint. Messages passed down by families, partners, and even former versions of ourselves can keep us at arm's length from the life we want. Sometimes we don't even realize they're there.
In individual therapy, I sit across from you to explore both your struggles and your strengths. Together, we uncover the internal stories that no longer serve you and build better coping tools, ones that support the version of you that you're growing into.
You Don't Have to Avoid the Hard Stuff
“You won't be judged. You will be heard.”
Clients often tell me they appreciate my openness with difficult issues like addiction, infidelity, uncertainty, or stuckness. I don't flinch at what's real. Therapy is a space where you can lay it down, get curious, and begin again.
Supporting Individuals Through Conflict
I also work with individuals who feel trapped in a repetitive cycle: hurt, distant, and misunderstood by the person they most want to feel close to. Whether we're exploring attachment wounds or communication misfires, our work helps you disrupt old patterns and rebuild trust from the inside out. These are individual sessions. I don't offer couples therapy.
What I’m Working Toward
Therapy that goes beyond symptom relief. I want to be a trusted mental health advocate in sessions and in the community: challenging stigma, putting connection first, and treating your mind, body, and relationships as one picture. The goal is results that last, and more purpose, joy, and self-trust in how you live.
My Method
A structured, compassionate approach to lasting change
My work follows three phases: Focus, Reflect, Refine. It's structured enough to give direction and flexible enough to move at your pace.
Focus
In our first sessions, I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and psychoeducational tools to help you identify the thoughts, behaviors, and emotional patterns keeping you stuck. This phase is about clarity: naming what's going on beneath the surface and seeing how it shows up in your daily life. I'll ask direct, solution-focused questions and build a treatment plan around your goals.
You might notice:
Self-critical thoughts that feel automatic
Reactions that don't match the situation
Habits that once helped but now feel limiting
Reflect
Once we've identified the patterns, I'll guide you in developing a mindfulness practice for emotional regulation and self-awareness. Mindfulness isn't just meditation. It's learning to observe your thoughts and feelings without reacting right away or spiraling into shame.
This phase helps you:
See yourself and your challenges with more compassion
Create space between emotion and action
Interrupt old cycles before they take over
Refine
As therapy progresses, we apply your new insights and coping tools to real situations, which is where growth becomes sustainable. You'll start noticing how your responses shift, how your boundaries hold, and how your self-trust deepens.
In this phase, we:
Revisit and refine goals based on what's working
Explore new stressors or transitions as they arise
Strengthen your ability to self-regulate and self-advocate
Going Deeper: IFS, EMDR, and Brainspotting
As we move through Reflect and Refine, I draw on IFS, EMDR, and Brainspotting to work with the parts, memories, and body responses that insight and coping skills alone don't fully reach.
Body-based work can also be offered virtually.

Why This Method Works
Whether you're working through trauma, anxiety, ADHD, addiction, or relational stress, this approach helps you move from insight to action with clarity and compassion.
Let’s Start Where You Are
Therapy is about more than insight; it's about transformation. My hope is that you'll leave each session a little clearer, a little more grounded, and a lot more like yourself.
Whether you're seeking personal growth or working through a relationship struggle on your own, I'd be honored to support you.
